Firm, brown, smooth and easy to pick up. Indicates healthy digestion.

The Ideal  

Loose, unformed stool. Could mean dietary issues, parasites or infections.

Runny  

Clear jelly-like coating. Signals irritation or inflammation in the colon.

Mucus  

Red streaks or clots. Potential injury, parasite or disorder. Requires prompt vet visit.

Blood  

Ashen color. Indicates very poor digestion and poor nutrient absorption.

Gray  

Caused by digested blood. Possible ulcer or bleeding in the stomach/intestines.  

Black  

Unusual but could indicate quick transit time in the intestines. Monitor.
