How Long Can Cats Be Left Home Alone

Kittens under 6 months old shouldn't be left alone for more than 2-3 hours. They need frequent care and supervision.

Kitten

Healthy adult cats can be left alone for up to 48 hours with prep. Cats are independent but get lonely without company.

Adult Cat

Older cats may need more frequent care like medication or litter changes. Limit time alone to 24 hours or less.

Senior Cat

Cats with separation anxiety fare better with shorter alone times of 4-6 hours max. Consider pet sitters or day care.

High Anxiety

Most cats can be left overnight, up to 10-12 hours. Ensure they have access to food, water, litter box.

Overnight

For a weekend trip, have a trusted person check on your cat at least once, preferably twice.

Weekend

Stock up on food, water, clean litter box before leaving. Give cats stimulation with toys, cat TV and more.
